It is those often overlooked little things in life, the trivial ones that vanish with a blink of an eye and a quick turn of your head, that are going to make you happy.
It is not here today – gone tomorrow roller coaster emotions, true happiness is in that very moment when your daughter says “happy birthday” for the first time, when you still share a shy wink with your husband of more than eleven years, when a cake turns out so bad that you drown it in milk, eat it for breakfast and actually enjoy it.
Some days are better than others, yet in every day there is good. Sometimes you need to search harder, sometimes the joy screams and jumps up and down right in front of your face, sometimes it dances all over the kitchen.
Close your eyes for a moment and remember a bright spot in your day, keep it in your thoughts and know that even when you have little (possessions – by choice or not) you do indeed own a lot.
Positive memories store well for years to come, write them down on a slip of paper, put them in a jar in the pantry and some years down the line, go and harvest that long forgotten jar of candified elderberry jam along with an enormous smile and a joyful heart.
Smile when you have the chance, happiness is contagious, so share it over a steaming mug of organic coffee or while browsing an amazing cookbook. Smile because it makes you happy. Smile simply because it makes others happy.
Never underestimate the little things in life!
