Have you even heard of such as sustainable life design or anyone practicing it – for a living?
Oh, of course, I mean the question to be a playful riddle…
And the upside-down correct answer is that you haven’t only heard of sustainable life designer as occupation, but have already “met” two of them occupying this calling: Cheryl and Roland, my wife and me.
We considered it was mutually beneficial to provide our readers with a bit of an introduction to what this job is about, to make it that much more tangible, accessible, less enigmatic for you, rather than just presenting a menu button to press as if we have all had clear expectations from such a service, now just waiting for the need to occur.
Two decades ago, when I began my studies in landscape architecture, I often had to explain myself to people in my neck of the woods in Romania and Hungary what I was going to do as landscape architect. They understood architect, but what was there to build of the landscape?!
Well, twenty years later, I find we might be in similar situation with sustainable life design. One readily gets the meaning of design as something having to do with engineering or art.
But why should any kind of life need to be redrawn?! After all lives unfold by themselves as fate had them run their course… or do they?
Wait a minute… If you happen to ask these questions, you are half way there and will get to the answer soon.
In more recent times one ought to get used to the phenomenon of all new professions popping up, coming to existence and worldwide relevance, as if from nowhere, with no formal maternity ward (like a prominent college), just recognized needs prompted by tension in current life affairs and courageous responses to those by intuitive, creative individuals.
These typically entrepreneurial spirits are somehow sensitive to interpret tension in culture, technology, the state of the Earth or humanity’s now quickly redeveloping consciousness to merge, once again, the universal flow, an all-inclusive cosmic feel.
There is a great sense of urgency associated with these answers too, the kind of exhilaration experienced in birthing, a metacommunicative agreement of rightness between the two mediums ready to join.
Paradoxically this urgency can be that of slow.
Such was the case with sustainable life design, when a couple of years ago (exactly when does not matter, as we believe life – much like the universe itself – is a fluid flow of influences through timespace, not discrete moments threaded arbitrarily on a timeline), taking great delight in the harmony and quietude of our nature-bound, family-bonded life, we gradually awakened to a calling…
I have already given you two keywords: flow and slow. If you just type in either of them in our blog’s search bar, you’ll be gifted with a wealth of inspiration, to gain a feel for where we come from spiritually.
Turns out that becoming – what we dubbed – sustainable life designers is only the natural effect of all the convergences in our own lives, by which Cheryl and I could consciously streamline the happy changes with our intuition into a life transformative paradigm shift.
The art, rather than engineering (science) of sustainable life design is who we are, what we have been doing, applying gradually to ourselves. Seeing the huge benefits, the sense in doing so, the growing harmony that not just follows but surrounds one’s gentle footsteps, considerate gait on life’s paths thereafter, made us desire to help others achieve the same – on hire.
Whether online or in person, if/when you are ready to hire us, you thereby agree to open up for an intimate conversation. In the case of our online services the “line” itself can facilitate a talk in earnest, whereas for the personal meetings either our clients’ home or a mutually accessible, serene natural environment with few to no “outside” distractions can be a conducive medium to thought exchange.
Once the communication channel is set, always with respect to the previously agreed upon time frame, we as your artfully sensitive partners proceed to gain a good feel about where you as a sustainable solution seeker stand. This takes peering into your life in a broad sense, including the material environment, space and time management, diet, the connected physical and emotional health and so on.
The initial assessment is then followed by a drawn-out, thematically focused realignment plan, in equal partnership with you, whereby we help you find your best fitting way back to nature and to what is natural. Rest assured, going natural does not mean a uniform standardization at all. It is individual fulfillment within an Earthly context, so on the grounds of an unhindered awareness of both the human and the other than human realms.
Coming to such a new, mindful mindset that nature’s mentality is and reestablishing, reorganizing life in accord with it, inevitably moves one out of her or his earlier comfort zone and into something awesomely guilt-free. But the transition may be somewhat painful, like a withdrawal. However it goes without saying, this is for the better. It is for the good, where one’s good and the greater good unite.
Purifying your mentality is naturally followed by simplifying the whole of your life, materially and spiritually (emotionally) alike to accommodate the free fusion of nature and culture.
At the end of the day, by hiring us as your sustainable life designers you will be left with an unprecedented sense of satisfaction, a clear vision of sort that you can trust and build on for the rest of your life, because you will have re-embraced your innate intuition once again – this time permanently.
You’ll see, just as well as we did, there is no sensible way back to whom you were before.
We alternatively apply the more commonly spoken phrase of holistic life coaching to what we do, so it’s more readily seen by seekers and search engines, but there is an implicit distinction between the two: we feel that the term sustainable life design conveys more successfully the extent of ecological consciousness to which level we are taking our services. In our personal bias sustainable life seems to express more sensitivity than holistic life.
So when you choose the help of a sustainable life designer like us, be mentally and spiritually prepared for a radical makeover, not only tweaking of your life.
Hence the longer term (1 to 6 months) mutual commitment we request between us and our clients. We are here to help shorten the transition for you without losing on effectiveness, but radical changes simply take time to implement and instill.
It is a progression that does not have a terminus. We have been on this self-development journey for a decade ourselves, which makes an effective 6 months’ time filled with personalized attention a friendly time period to commit. Especially considering that Cheryl and I as parents to a young child, are very open to addressing the needs of the family as such, including and involving children as well. (Please note that currently the face-to-face coaching service we are only able to provide for clients living in Romania.)
This is what we, sustainable life designers do: in a divided world we reconnect you with your intuition, that in turn leads you back to where we all belong, to nature, in a very real, participatory kind of way.
Pass this message on, please, to anyone you would like to see prosper: return to senses, simplify life and rejoice in nature with a happy, clear conscience.
My sustainable life design services are two-prong: through online consultancy, along with Cheryl, I give you and your family guidance for the volunteer one-way path of living life sustainably, while your small business can benefit from my in-person sustainability audit and the according future work-life plan layout, accomplished in the quality of fly-in consultant.
As tour guide in and around Breb, our home village in Maramureș County, northwestern Romania, I can bring sustainable living straight to your senses.
