Blog Content Writer + Article Writer + Social Media Manager + Virtual Assistant
If you are in search of a highly dependable and engaging writer on the topics of sustainability, green living, minimalism and simplicity, then look no further!
With 400+ posts published on more than 25 different blogs, I have gained abundant experience working for others, all the while living life as an expat, homesteader and semi-digital nomad.
Hello! My name is Cheryl. You may already know me well if you have been following our blog here since 2011. If not, here is my simplified story:
I am three times an expat – having spent 8 years on our thirteen acre organic homestead in Ópusztaszer, Hungary, experienced life in a wind-tossed caravan in the Scottish Borders for 10 months before moving by train down to sunny Devon, England and now with my husband and daughter we are settling into life in rural Maramureș, Romania, I think I will call this place home.
Born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, I am anything but a city girl. I frequently spent a lot of time outside in the backyard, in the swimming pool, camping and hiking in the woodlands of Wisconsin. I was a Girl Scout for 12 years, and while I was teased for my hobby at the time, I am quite proud of all I learned there (reading topographical maps and finding my way with a compass, making fires and cooking over them, learning about trees, tying knots, pitching tents and canoeing down rivers).
Perhaps it is not surprising that I ended up with a degree in Horticulture, for I have an unending love for foraging, working with plants and trees, as well as growing food organically. Our health, good or bad, starts with proper nutrition or the lack of it. Going gluten-free 4 years ago was pivotal for me – and I could never eat any other way.
My work experience is multifarious – I have been a greenhouse manager, self-employed natural housecleaner, a private cook, even a kitchen porter for a year, but wherever I am and whatever I do, is deeply rooted in essentialism and a fondness for the Earth.
